2021 A team Champs
Hi everyone, this is Logan Stepp, Blake Burnett, and Nickel Stewart. We wanted to share our experience playing basketball for Page.
The 2021 A-team season was our very last season at Page School Center. It was very successful, with the result in a tip-off and a county championship. We went 15-0 including the tip-off tournament and the county tournament. Our team consisted of eight 8th-graders who have played together since a very young age. This also marked the end of an era for our coaches, PJ Burnett and Jason Stewart. These magnificent coaches have accounted for 10 county championships in 7 years.
Our experience with Page basketball has been nothing short of unforgettable. Through the ups and downs, victories and defeats, celebrations and heartbreaks, they have all created memories that will last forever. The support of the school, coaches, and fans is like nowhere else in the county. It has helped us become the people we are today, and it has prepared us to be future athletes at Bell County High School and continue a legacy that we started as elementary friends.
From our time at Page, we have had some memorable games, including wins and losses. For example, two years in a row (2017-2018,2018-2019) when we and Bell Central went 1-1 in the regular season. At the end of both of those seasons, the championship was decided by single digits with clutch free throws made at the end. These were both won by the Wildcats, but you can’t win all of them. In 2019-2020, during a regular-season game at home against county rival Bell Central, the tides turned. This back-and-forth game came down to a final possession victory. With under 5 seconds to go, Bell Central air-balled a shot that landed perfectly in the hands of one of their players. He inevitably made the layup as the buzzer sounded and won the game.
On and off the court, we have had too many funny moments to count. For instance, after we won the county championship in 2020, we came back to Page to celebrate. There we ate pizza, played some pick-up basketball, and played hide-and-seek for hours. Plus, the times after the championships when we went to Pizza Hut during school to celebrate. Here, we would celebrate the win with pizza, drinks, telling stories, and laughing hysterically.
Now that our time here is over, we must move on to high school. Here we plan on continuing the success of the basketball program with Coach Sizemore. Page has been very effective at preparing players for the next level, with eleven past Page players on the high school roster this year!
